GREENWICH, Conn. - A backcountry home in Greenwich was burglarized Thursday night after a suspect entered through a second-story balcony, Greenwich police reported.

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, a resident of Round Hill Road reported hearing noises within the home. The suspect or suspects fled before police arrived, and the incident remained under investigation, police said.

The department has noticed a recent uptick in burglaries in which second-story windows were the point of entry, throughout Westchester and Fairfield counties, police officials say. Police said this has been occuring more regionally, including Fairfield and Westchester counties. Nationwide, second-story window entry is uncommon, but not unheard of, according to Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the deaprtment.

“The average citizen often becomes complacent about locking these potential entrances to the home, and the thieves know this,” said Gray.

The department urges residents to take personal security seriously and employ burglary prevention tactics to secure their homes.
