GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich High senior Marcus Motill won the 600 meters and helped a relay to win gold to lead the Cardinals to a third-place finish Saturday at the State Open Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

The Cardinals finished with 31 points. Staples won with 47, followed by Hillhouse with 34. Greenwich’s girls also ran well, taking fifth with 25 points. Hillhouse’s girls won with 74.

Motill won the 600 in 1:21:13 and took second in the 300 in 35.54. Motill, Elijah Dume, Nick Pulitano and Ryan Kelly won the 4 x 200 for the Cardinals, the meet's opening race.

Kelly was sixth in the 300, and Dume was 10th. Kelly added a fifth place finish in the 600. Greenwich’s sprint medley team finished ninth, and Daniel Wilbanks was 11th in the 1,000.

For the girls, Abby Markowitz ran 2:56:74 in the 1,000, nearly two seconds below her seeded time, to finish third. Teammate Jenny Goggin was 10th.

Greenwich was also third in the 4 x 200 relay with Amanda Michaud, Claire D’Etivaud, Emily Johnson and Naomi Leeds. In the 4 x 400 relay, Elizabeth Markowitz, Cate Wright, Leeds and Michaud took fourth place. The sprint medley team of Lindsey Noskin, Johnson, Wright and Goggin took second. Elizabeth Markowitz added a sixth place finish in the 600.

Complete results of the State Open are available online. The top finishers will advance to the New England Track and Field championships on March 2 in Massachusetts.
